The name
SEYMR® is written in five capitals: S, E, Y, M, R. No vowel separates the M from the R. The name is said in two beats, say-mir.
At its centre stands the Latin Maurus, which designated the African. It gives a saint’s name, then the Norman place name Saint-Maur; with the conquest, the name crosses the Channel and becomes the English surname Seymour, beneath which the root disappears.
