SEYMR® · Etymology
The name
SEYMR is written in five capitals: S, E, Y, M, R. No vowel separates the M from the R. The name is said in two beats, say-mir.
At the heart of the name stands the Latin Maurus, which designated the African. The chain reads in this order. Maurus gives the saint's name, then the Norman place name Saint-Maur. The place name crosses the Channel with the conquest and becomes an English surname, Seymour. The surname spreads, and the root disappears beneath it.
SEYMR keeps the root and drops the layers. What language had covered with two English vowels becomes legible again: the wisdom that came from Africa is inscribed at the very heart of what was perceived as foreign.
